Everybody in New York goes on vacation in the summer to escape the humid city. Usually, I take some time off and head for the country with my girlfriend, Stephanie. But this year, I decided we needed a “real vacation”. We’d both been working hard all year and needed to get away. I did a little research on the Internet and found Sandals Resorts. For a little more than a trip to Martha’s Vineyard, we got a week long trip in the Caribbean. And it was all-inclusive; everything was included (except the airfare and a few small things). Meals, all our activities, nighttime entertainment and even drinks are all part of the package. They have so many resorts, but I decided on the Royal Bahamian Jamaican vacation spot. Not only because the Bahamian Tourism Board gave me a $500 rebate, but because it was uber fancy. Really. I also got us 1 night of the 7 days there for free.
When we were in the plane getting ready to land, Stephanie looked out the window and decided this was paradise. By the time we left, I had to agree. Our room was on our own private island and we got there by kayaking in. Pretty wild stuff, a total adventure. Our room was amazing—we had a huge tub, the most comfortable bed and butler service. And, we were picked up at the airport in a Mercedes.
I just wanted to chill by the pool, lie on the beach and do a little wind surfing. I was so relaxed, which is crazy because I’m one of the MOST stressed out guys I know. Stephanie wanted to do everything. So, we compromised. Half the day was spent relaxing on the beach and the other part of the day, we would play volleyball, go scuba diving or go to yoga. Yep, she dragged me to yoga. It wasn’t bad. After an early evening nap, we would stay up pretty much all night drinking in one of the bars that had unlimited drinks or dancing at the nightclubs. One night while we were at the bar, we met another couple from Long Island. Turns out they lived down the street from us—we had to travel thousands of miles to meet them.
The week went by insanely fast. I got so used to island life, staff who did everything for us, excellent food, chilling on the beach and nightlife, that it was hard to leave. Usually, when we got on vacation I can’t pack my suitcase quick enough and dream of home. So, I know I’ll definitely take another Sandals spa resort vacation in the future. Not sure what island (there’s quite a few). I thinking it might be a good idea for Christmas, a vacation as a gift for me and Stephanie.
