Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa

For my husband Jeremy’s 40th birthday, I wanted to surprise him with a romantic getaway. I booked the Sandals Grande Antigua Caribbean vacation and our roundtrip flight. I even called his boss and got my husband time off of work. I asked him to meet me at the airport under the guise that my mother was flying in and we had to pick her up at the airport. Well, my mother had flown in, but to watch the kids while we were away. He met me at the airport and I let him in on the surprise. Our bags were packed, the passports were in my hand and there was a huge smile on Jeremy’s face—I had given him an offer he couldn’t refuse! He’d been complaining about how old he was getting on this milestone birthday, but with this trip turning 40 wouldn’t be so painful.

The minute we arrived, I knew were in paradise—combed white sand and clear blue water surrounded by lush gardens. We stayed in the Mediterranean Village in a 5-star suite that was so luxurious and had an amazing view of the beach. But based on what I paid for it, you would have thought it was only 2 stars. All the meals and activities were included, too. The only thing we had to pay extra for was the site seeing tour, a picnic cruise, spa and a few rounds of golf for Jeremy. While he played 18 rounds of golf, I hit the spa for a massage and facial. We were so relaxed that we stayed in room that night and had dinner and some alone time. But we did sneak off at midnight for a dip in the whirlpool.

During the day, we went for walks on the beach, swam in the pool (they even had a bar you could swim up to), went sailing and played tennis. We didn’t have enough time to go snorkeling or scuba diving, but maybe on our next visit. Every night we had the most amazing meals—Italian, Caribbean, seafood, Japanese, sushi and steaks. And the nighttime activities were so much fun—pool, karaoke, slot machines (there was a casino night), live shows and bands and the last night they had Carnival Night.

It was the trip of a lifetime! Before we left, my husband asked me when we could come back again. It was the BEST vacation we’ve ever been on and who would have believed we could have afforded such a decadent getaway luxury vacation. If you’re thinking of having a romantic getaway, I can’t recommend Sandals enough.
